Welcome to the freshly-launched meltings.com site. While there is still work to be done I am excited that it is finally live. I have already learned a few lessons about this process (e.g. proofread before I hit save for these because I need professional intervention to make corrections) and will no doubt continue to learn, so I apologize in advance for my mistakes. This has been an internatinal effort, and I am very thankful to Andrew and Kyle (and I suspect Diana helped too) for their hard work on this, it is obviously not something I could have done without you. Dan, thanks for the great photography and for your ongoing support of this work. There are others I could and probably should thank here too, but I will save that for later posts. In my first post I said that I would perhaps talk about my distractions in additon to glass-related things, on that note I ask you to hold good thoughts for my friend Linda as she faces some significant health issues beginning with surgery tomorrow.

OK, true confessions, a weblog is pretty foreign to me. When my web gurus told me this was pretty much a standard thing these days I started reading a few to get an idea of what they are about. I am not sure that I will be very faithful about adding entries, but will try. Some entries will be about my glass and related experiences, but should you choose to read them, you will learn about the minutia that is my top-of-mind rant or distraction of the moment. I invite you to send me your comments at: mary.stoneman@meltings.com

June- Glass Month in the Gorge at the Oak Street Hotel

The Oregon Glass Guild has organized a month-long exhibition of art glass in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and Washington for the month of June. Yes, I know June is almost history, but since I have only just now have a place to to talk about it I will do so now. Many businesses in the Gorge are each hosting the work of a member of the Guild. While the majority of participating businesses are in Hood River, Oregon, others in The Dalles, Oregon and White Salmon, Washington are also participating.

As a first-year member of the Guild I was thrilled to be selected to participate in this event, and believe that I have the best venue in town--the charming Oak Street Hotel. OK, it's at the top of the hill and the last stop on the list, but Lisa and Denise and their staff at the Oak Street Hotel have been great to work with. Lisa found a way to display at least two dozen of my pieces, and they placed a banner advertising the event and my work outside the hotel. Denise and Lisa, I appreciate your support and thank you for this opportunity.

On a previous note, I have great news about my previouos distraction, my friend Linda came through her surgery well, as of this afternoon was out of intensive care, drains and IVs were out and she will go home sometime this weekend. Pathology results won't be in for some time, and the likely next steps aren't something anyone would opt for if there were alternatives, so far, better than so good!
